Peer Mentorship Programme

“As an outgoing first year I feel that the peer mentorship programme helped us ease into our LLB. Our peer mentors gave an overall idea of university life. From how to navigate through our textbooks and extra reading material, to approaching revision, and balancing studies with extra curriculars. Sometimes the sessions were used for casual conversations because there is no one who you can relate to more than someone doing the same degree, but with a bit more experience. Therefore, as a peer mentor for the current first years I hope to be helpful and present, because it’s easier to relate and open up to someone closer to your age and who went through their first year of the LLB not too long ago.”

“Starting out in the earlier stages of the academic year , covering large syllabuses over a shorter period of time and having to absorb significant amounts of new theories and concepts is where the peer support program which was offered continuously guided and helped my batch members and I. Our sessions began with statistics 2, a vast, advanced syllabus which left us slightly confused after going through textbooks and study guides trying to understand difficult concepts more clearly, all of which was then broken down by our seniors, carefully explaining each detail, equation, derivation and little parts of the syllabus that were initially touched upon the surface, were explained in depth in a way that stuck in our minds. The above was carried out in areas that not just one, but many students had a handful of doubts in. It is advantageous in that the key concepts are delivered in a way that is easy to grasp and carry forward to the final exam. Important areas which students are able to score higher grades by familiarizing themselves with, study tips on how to efficiently cover course work ,etc. were all communicated. Further, having the ability to ask any question in mind no matter how insignificant it may have seemed, which not only helped the student asking but also helped others in class. The environment was such that when we left the session our minds had little to no doubts in the areas we had just covered ,allowing our minds to be a little more at ease knowing everything we have to learn is achievable and within reach , with hard work , and a little push and support from our peers.”

"The Peer Mentoring Programme was genuinely helpful for me during my first term at RIC. Having my peer mentor to support me through academic and campus-related stuff made it easier to settle in, and definitely reduced a lot of stress. It was nice to know who to reach out to when I was unsure about something. Overall, the whole program was supportive and useful for getting through the first term more confidently :)"
